Acne Skin Treatments
WHAT CAUSES ADULT ACNE?

Before we can discuss adult acne cures, we have to understand what acne is and the causes of adult acne. The early stages of adult acne go largely unrecognized as a serious condition that should be treated in the early stages. In essence, acne is caused by blocked hair follicle pores that become filled with infected bacteria and can lead to unsightly eruptions and scarring. Pores become blocked by an excess of oil production, abnormal shedding of skin cells and the build up of dead skin cells at pore openings. The condition can be self-perpetuating unless there is intervention. While there is no single cause for acne, several leading factors that can trigger acne production are: stress, bad cosmetics (which includes any product you put on your skin), hormonal imbalance and medications.
Skin pores need to breathe.
They are part of your body’s natural cleansing system, so when your pores are blocked and infected the toxins are building up in your system and creating a condition of less than optimal health. Blackheads and whiteheads are the first visible signs that an acne condition exists and signals the need for immediate treatment before reaching the next stage of acne: infected pimples and inflammation. Without effective treatment, acne can eventually cause permanent and disfiguring scarring.
The best adult acne treatment is diligence on 3 levels:
- 1) prevention of the conditions that can trigger acne production;
- 2) dilligent skin care practices;
- 3) the use of adult acne products for treatment of advanced conditions.
Let’s look at these 3 levels.
1. Prevention of acne starts with good diet choices and personal hygiene.
Drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day helps to eliminate toxins in the body and hydrates the skin, giving it an improved overall appearance. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables daily helps to cleanse the body and nurtures your skin. In addition to keeping the body clean, it is equally important to deal effectively with stress, which can adversely affect your homones. A great acne skin care tip is to change your pillowcase every other day. The dead skin cells and bacteria build-up on your pillowcase can infect or re-infect your skin.
2. Dilligent skin care involves not only cleansing your skin, but the removal of blackheads and whiteheads and dead skin cells that are blocking the pores.
You need to realize that adult skin is not as resilient as teenage skin and is more subject to sensitivity and dryness. Your daily skin care regime needs to include soothing moisturizers that will nurture your skin, but will not clog your pores. Use non-comedogenic adult acne products and cosmetics to keep your pores open and breathing.
3. If your skin has advanced to the inflammation and infection stages, then in addition to prevention and cleansing, you may find relief with topical medicines.
Apply topical medicine on dry skin. Pat your face dry after washing and wait for at least 15 minutes before applying medicine. Applying medicine on wet skin can cause irritation. Overuse of medicines does not cure acne faster, and many topical treatments can cause dry skin. As mentioned earlier, your skin care regime should include special moisturizers for your adult acne skin.
The secret to adult acne cures is a combination of prevention, recognizing a condition when it exists, using appropriate adult acne products, dilligence and persistence. This represents the best overall approach to a happier, healthier, blemish-free life.
