All Natural Mineral Makeup, True Mineral Makeup
The best makeup for acne prone skin is an all natural mineral makeup. True mineral makeup, also referred to as acne mineral makeup, will not clog your pores. Read on for a review of 3 products; one that worked and two that didn’t.
I will tell you everything you need to know about foundation for acne-prone skin. I have discovered the secret foundation for acne-prone skin: mineral makeup. Not until now have I ever been satisfied with the outcome of my daily makeup routines due to my terrible acne. Mineral makeup has been the only type of foundation that has not made me break out.
The Good Stuff = bareminerals
The first time I heard about this mineral makeup stuff was a few years ago and I just thought it was a craze that would end in a few months. I mean, mineral makeup?? How could stuff that looks so light cover the many pimples and acne scars I have? Plus wouldn’t the powder just make my skin look even drier than it already is? Having very acne-prone skin was a major pain and no matter how much lotion I put on, the concealer & foundation I used just became flaky.
Luckily just this year my friend who has amazing looking skin (who surprisingly has an acne problem too) recommended I try this out. I was a little skeptical but because nothing else seemed to work, I decided to buy the bareMinerals kit that Sephora sells for $60 (this includes 2 shades of powder foundation, 1 warmth (it’s like blush/bronzer), 1 mineral veil, and 3 types of brushes..I say good deal!) And well, I love it! It covers up the acne, acne scars, redness, and evens out my skin. It took a few tries to get used to powder (I used to use liquid foundation) but once you get used to it, it’s very easy to use.
4/5 rating for i.d.bareMineral foundation! It’s terrific.
The Bad Stuff:
For around a little over $40 I thought that the foundation and powder was a good deal and I was excited to go home and try it. But as usual, I was terribly and sadly disappointed.
The foundation caused an increasingly and uncomfortable amount of dryness. No amount of lotion helped and I felt like I was stuck in this mask of M.A.C cake. And it was unbelievable what it did to my acne! Literally an hour after putting it on, I noticed small bumps forming on my skin. How lovely, more pimples already?
I later heard from a friend that M.A.C is horrible for your skin (well, of course. I figured out the hard way) and is only good for photoshoots.
2/5 rating. Good coverage but makes acne worse and dries out skin
#2 Benefit Non-fiction Foundation
Same as M.A.C foundation but just not as bad. It makes your acne worse and dries out your skin but just not as bad as M.A.C does. The coverage is good but a little bit of hell for your skin. I used this stuff only when I was desperate.
It was about $30 when I bought it but I think it’s only about $15 now.
A headsup: certain things work for certain people; this foundation failed for me.
3/5 rating. A decent option but not good.
Acne-prone skin is hard to work with and good foundation is hard to come by. Luckily, I found one that worked well with my horrible acne and found out quick enough not to stick with the ‘bad stuff’. Mineral makeup may be the solution to covering up your acne, acne scars and other problems that come with having acne-prone skin as it was for me.
